The Metaphysics of Tragedy: A Soul Contract Analysis of the Murders of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan

When tragedies like this happen, it’s human nature to (want to) find the villain. To find a person (or in this case, people) to blame. And, honestly, both she and her parents are insufferable.

When I saw the case the state presented to the judge State of Ohio v. Mackenzie Shirilla two years ago, I blamed MacKenzie’s parents (you had one job lady), MacKenzie, and everything in between.

With The Crash Netflix Documentary out, I began to look at it through a different lens.

What Are the Soul Contracts Here?

To analyze this tragedy through the lens of a Soul Architect and the Akashic Records, means to set aside (my) immediate emotional reaction (disgust, repulsion, and disbelief), the physical evidence of the accident, and instead attune to what the

vibratory frequency of the 2022 node was.

What was the underlying energetic pattern connected to the exact moment of impact in 2022?

What the mortal world views as a catastrophic failure of judgment is, within the Akashic Records, (the living library of the Earth, a metaphysical archive of all events and foot steps of each person’s Soul Contracts through time) as part of a bigger plan, a soul contract created before each soul arrived.

A soul contract is a spiritual agreement made before this life, intended to create a significant reset or change in our shared reality. We all have free will though, so it could happen this lifetime or another one.

The murder of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan occurred on July 31, 2022, at approximately 5:30 a.m., when Mackenzie Shirilla intentionally crashed her Toyota Camry into a brick wall going 100mph occurred as we were moving into the New Earth.

We are moving from the Age of Pisces (ruled by belief, sacrifice, and hierarchy) into the Age of Aquarius, which is all about community, shared knowledge, technology, and individual freedom.

The trial and verdict reflect the old energy, the old way of thinking, and by looking at it through the Akashic Records invites us to consider a new, more compassionate perspective.

This new focus on compassion sees tragedy as a true test of love on Earth. It encourages us to look within ourselves for answers to deep spiritual challenges, instead of immediately blaming someone else when tragedy happens.

The energy of the New Earth asks us to consider why such a tragic event might have been part of a bigger soul plan.

To really understand what happened, we need to look at MacKenzie's inner struggles first.

MacKenzie Shirilla: The Soul Widow and the Mirrorless Child

MacKenzie Shirilla: The Soul Widow and the Mirrorless Child

At the heart of this tragedy was (in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), I was taught it's a metaphorical black hole, the deep, underlying emptiness, trauma, or dopamine deficit that drives addiction, by replacing temporary chemical fixes with lasting spiritual connection, community, and the work). I feel as though MacKenzie Shirilla also struggled with the black hole, a belief that something important was missing inside her.

From an archetypal stand point, she fits the archetype of the Soul Widow, someone who feels unclaimed and alone.

The Mirrorless Child archetype is usually someone who grew up without emotional reflection; meaning no one really saw them, validated them, mirrored their feelings, or helped them form a stable sense of self.

They often become:

  • hyper-aware of other people

  • shape-shifters

  • performers

  • caretakers

  • seekers of identity

  • emotionally invisible while physically present

The core wound is often: “I don’t know who I am unless someone reflects me back to myself.”

This emptiness wasn’t caused by outside events, but was something she brought into this lifetime, and because she didn't have the tools or confidence to address it, she tried to fill it by drawing others close to protect herself from her own inner turmoil.

Just like Princess Di, MacKenzie's life was shaped by a strong inner conflict.

On the outside, she showed a happy face, but inside she struggled with intense emotions.

  • The Grinning Mask was her carefully crafted TikTok image, stylish outfits, happy relationship moments, and an appearance of confidence, meant to show everyone she had a perfect life.

  • Her private reality was very different. She looked up to characters like Regina George, used drugs, and often used her emotions to control those around her and to manipulate people to keep them close. An unconscious way to protect herself.

This inner conflict was made worse by what’s called the Mirrorless Child. Think Brittany Spears.

The Soul Contracts in MacKenzie Shirilla's Life: The Metaphysics of Tragedy. The murder of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan occurred on July 31, 2022, at approximately 5:30 a.m, when Mackenzie Shirilla intentionally crashed her vehicle into a brick wall in Strongsville, Ohio, killing two passengers: her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and their friend, Davion Flanagan.

Her parents, Natalie and Steve, had very different "parenting" (and I use that word loosly) styles. They managed MacKenzie and her sister in opposite ways.

For MacKenzie, they often protected her from the results of her actions instead of helping her see the reality of her choices.

Natalie (is so cringe), saw her own unresolved pain in MacKenzie and tried to make things better by pleasing her. This approach hid the real problem, making it hard for MacKenzie to see how her actions led to consequences.

Looking at her birth year, 2004, the numbers add up to 6, which in numerology is linked to family issues and the need to bring balance at home.

The crash happened on July 31, 2022, a date that adds up to 8 in numerology, which stands for action and power. When someone with unresolved family issues (a 6) faces the strong energy of an 8 day, emotions can become overwhelming.

Akashic Entanglements: The Parental Shield and the Failure of Discernment

Akashic Entanglements: The Parental Shield and the Failure of Discernment

The parental energy in this contract provided the spiritual permission for the catastrophe. Natalie and Steve Shirilla practiced a form of neglectful indulgence, creating an environment where MacKenzie’s internal malware could replicate without interference.

Her mother’s unhealed wounds acted as the template; she gave MacKenzie everything she herself had lacked, which served only to suppress the actual wound, allowing it to reach a high-pressure state.

The father’s role in this entanglement was the Fixer without Tools. By joking about speeding tickets and failing to implement spiritual or physical accountability, he effectively handed MacKenzie the one-way ticket to oblivion.

The Invisible Thread between the parents and the driver was not one of guidance, but of spiritual appeasement. They stood on MacKenzie's parenting path, shouting directions at her sister on the other path, while remaining tethered to MacKenzie’s chaos.

This failure of discernment, treating a high-pressure soul wound with band-aids of indulgence, ensured that the only remaining outcome was a 100-mph resolution.

The act of pressing the accelerator all the way down was not just a mistake, but a sign of someone trying to escape their own emptiness. This brings us to the story of Dom, the main passenger.

Dominic Russo: The Lesson of the Targeted Anchor

Dominic Russo: The Lesson of the Targeted Anchor

Dominic Russo’s soul contract was to play the role of the Targeted Anchor, the steady, positive person MacKenzie tried to rely on after she no longer depended on her parents.

The Targeted Anchor archetype is usually the person in a family, system, relationship, workplace, or even collective dynamic who unconsciously gets assigned to hold the tension, truth, pain, projection, or instability for everyone else.

They become the emotional lightning rod.

Not because they’re weak; usually because they’re sensitive, perceptive, different, or hard to fully control.

Dominic Russo’s soul contract was to play the role of the Targeted Anchor, the steady, positive person MacKenzie tried to rely on after she no longer depended on her parents.

The Targeted Anchor often:

  • notices patterns others ignore

  • becomes the scapegoat or problem

  • absorbs collective anxiety

  • gets blamed for disruptions they merely exposed

  • feels psychically or emotionally “hooked into” environments

This emptiness wasn’t caused by outside events, but was something she already carried, and she tried to fill it by drawing others close to protect herself from her own inner turmoil.

Dom was mature, focused, and ran a successful clothing business, which made him a stable presence.

His steady nature made him someone MacKenzie wanted to hold onto. Perhaps, in her mind, if she could push Dominic to his limits and he stayed, it would recreate the strong bond she missed from her childhood.

But Dominic sensed the unhealthy dynamic in their relationship. Faced with staying in this situation or moving on, he chose to leave. He started recording threats and arguments, not just for legal reasons, but also as a sign that he was separating himself from the relationship.

Dynamics of the Failed Shield

MacKenzie’s Requirement

Dominic’s Reality

Total Possession: Demanding immediate text responses and constant location tracking to fill her void.

Emotional Dissonance: Dominic was visibly miserable and recording her violent threats to document the breach of the contract.

A Permanent Band-aid: Requiring Dominic to accept her Soul Widow wound without question.

The Safety Recording: Dominic’s decision to film her threats evidenced a soul no longer willing to be the shield for her volatility.

Weaponized Loyalty: Pushing him through physical violence (punches to the face) to ensure he would stay.

The Targeted Exit: Choosing a Short Life/Early Exit over a lifetime of vibrational degradation and control.

Dominic’s soul accepted the crash as a final step, choosing to move on rather than stay in a destructive situation.

This event also needed a third person to witness it, making sure it had a bigger meaning for everyone involved.

Davion Flanigan: The Compassionate Witness and Collective Soul Plan

Dominic Russo’s soul contract was to play the role of the Targeted Anchor, the steady, positive person MacKenzie tried to rely on after she no longer depended on her parents.

Davion Flanigan was the Compassionate Witness in the car.

He wasn’t just in the wrong place at the wrong time, his presence had meaning, it was preordained in a way.

As an adopted child who overcame a tough start to become an athlete and aspiring barber, Davion showed how someone can find their place in a community and bring joy to others.

MacKenzie showed the old patterns of control and anger, Davion’s early passing fits the idea that some souls leave this world to quickly return and help create a kinder, more compassionate future.

By living with hope and kindness, Davion helped bring a sense of light to this tragedy. He was meant to be a positive example, reminding everyone that there was innocence and goodness involved, not just darkness.

The story of these three souls is also shaped by the struggles of the previous generations.

Emotional Patterns Revealed by the Crash

This tragedy brought several deep emotional wounds and human patterns to the surface:

  • Fear: A fear of abandonment, loss, and emotional emptiness may have fueled an intense need for control and reassurance.

  • Identity & Ego: The contrast between the polished social media image and the emotional reality underneath highlights how easily images can become disconnected from inner stability.

  • Anger: Suppressed rage, emotional volatility, and impulsive behavior appear to have escalated into a catastrophic moment of destruction.

  • Emotional Reactivity: Instead of slowing down and processing emotions, reactions became immediate, defensive, and increasingly dangerous.

  • Judgment: The public response reflects society’s struggle to balance accountability, grief, punishment, compassion, and understanding in the wake of an unimaginable tragedy.

The deeper lesson in a tragedy like this is not about erasing responsibility. It is about recognizing how emotional wounds, unchecked behavior, family dynamics, and internal suffering can build over time until they eventually explode outward.

While nothing can undo what happened that night, you still have a choice in how you respond moving forward.

As expected, some people will respond solely with anger.

Others may choose to ask harder questions about emotional health, accountability, trauma, identity, relationships, and the warning signs that often appear long before a breaking point.

A spiritual perspective does not require people to excuse harmful actions. Instead, it invites compassion for the complexity of being human.

It asks us to remember that every person involved was more than the worst moment of their life:

  • Dominic

  • Davion

  • MacKenzie

  • The families left behind carrying the weight of it all

At its core, this tragedy becomes a reflection of the larger human experience:

  • How pain spreads,

  • How people lose themselves,

  • How suffering impacts entire communities,

  • Whether healing is possible afterward

For the survivors, the real challenge may not simply be surviving the tragedy itself, but deciding what grows from it next: rage, judgement, disgust or a deeper understanding?
