Not sure where to start when learning how to read Tarot Cards? I created a list of to do's before a reading as a guide for you!

What to do Before a Tarot Card Reading

You can use this for any cards you are reading.

Set Scared Space

Before starting a reading, invite your angels, guides, and all entities of the highest and whitest lite to guide the reading. Ask them to guide your words, to say the right words, and to hear the right words.

Calling in the Quarters

Calling in the quarters refers to the act of inviting entities of the highest light to supply the ritual with specific life forces.

They act as pillars in the four corners and help protect and structure the reading.

I use both archangels and the Elements, as I have been taught, to call in the quarters, (I read it until it came naturally) but I usually say something like this:

“Archangel Raphael, I ask you to protect and guide the North,

Magdalene Clan, I ask you to protect and guide the East.

Archangel Michael, I ask you to protect and guide the South.

Archangel Uriel, I ask you to protect and guide the West.

I ask the Grandmothers of the Universe and any one of the highest and whitest light to surround this sacred space.

Archangel Gabriel, I ask that you act as a bouncer, only allowing what I need to know to communicate with the right people to the right ears.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

The Shuffle

Pick up your deck.

I like to set an intention before a reading. If you have a question, formulate it in your mind as you start to shuffle the cards. Shuffle or rearrange the cards in a way that feels right for you.

You may like to cut the deck if this feels right.

You can take the cards from the top of the deck or fan them out and choose from anywhere in the deck. The more you play with your cards the sooner you will find the best way for you.

Remember, there is no right or wrong way to do this.

Jumping Cards

“A jumper” card is one that falls or jumps out of the deck.

Take note of jumping cards as they offer a magical insight into what you were feeling or understanding at the time they jumped.

Reversed Cards

In my experience a reversed card might indicate delays, obstacles or that more information is to come.

It doesn't mean anything negative.

The Future

We live in the present, with the future unfolding one moment at a time.

When you are reading future trends, allow the information and insight to illuminate all the options and possibilities before you.

This will allow you to make empowered, informed decisions about what you have asked about.

Train and Trust Your Intuition

Each time you choose a card or lay out a spread, look at the image(s), close your eyes, and imagine yourself in the picture.

What feelings words or images come to you?

Spend thirty seconds to a minute doing this.

Write down your impressions and then look up the message.

Language of Light Spreads

When we lay cards out in a set pattern or order it is called a spread. Each card's message is considered in combination with the cards around it. This allows different pathways and perspectives to be introduced to the reading.

Please feel free to use your favorite spreads.

Loving Who You Are and Who You Are Becoming

Shuffle, fan out the deck, and choose one card with any hand.

This card represents something wonderful you need to recognize or learn to love about yourself.

Look at the image and imagine you are in the picture.

Allow the image to be a pathway to your sacred space.

We are not trying to get to the image, rather it is a way to move you to your truth.

Close your eyes and breathe the image in and out.

Allow yourself to relax in the knowledge you are opening to inner wisdom and love.

After a while, you will move beyond the image into your inner world of creation.

When you feel ready, come back to the image, breathe it in and out, open your eyes, then read the message.
